Two weeks ago I started writing about a busy weekend, and got about halfway through it before putting it down. When I thought about continuing, I realized that my writeup was way too long and boring. Meanwhile, I had another (much quieter) weekend, and then a weekend together with my wife. But I still felt like I had unfinished business.

So, trashing the long writeup I attempted before, here's a quick rundown of the past three weekends....

Ah, now I feel better.... all is right in this part of the world again. :-)

We went to see Sky High today. Not only was it fun, but it seemed to be aimed at thirtysomethings at least as much as kids. This means I'm squarely in the age group that's assumed to have kids old enough to be going to movies. Besides feeling a bit John Hughes-ish, and having a lot of in-jokes in the adult cast, the soundtrack was entirely covers of 80s songs -- including They Might Be Giants covering Devo, and Bowling For Soup covering Modern English. In this and other respects it reminded me of Grosse Pointe Blank -- though that's emphatically not a kids movie, it was aimed directly at my generation (especially those four years older than me), complete with an 80s soundtrack. And that movie came out eight years ago, long enough for those protagonists to have a kid of their own now going to see Sky High.

(First I must note that despite the date stamp, this is not a joke. It's just an unfortunate coincidence that the announcements I've been awaiting for weeks arrived on this date. Or maybe both [livejournal.com profile] nicosomething and Ryan are playing a trick on me.)

In the past couple weeks there have been THREE new babies among my friends. All were late.

Very early on March 21, Ryan & Kaci had Rory, who was due March 17. (Since I hadn't talked to them in a while, I didn't even know Kaci was pregnant until a month ago.)

On March 24, Nikki & Dave had Isabelle, who was due on March 21. (I somehow managed not to see Nikki at all through the first eight months of her pregnancy.)

And finally, yesterday on March 31 [livejournal.com profile] nicosomething & Judith had Kate, who was due on March 23. (Actually I'm not sure when I last saw them or found out Judith was pregnant, though maybe [livejournal.com profile] nontacitare remembers.)

Congratulations to all!

April
