A couple weeks ago we watched the movie But I'm A Cheerleader. Among the film's many good qualities was a wonderful soundtrack.... but sadly, no soundtrack CD was ever released. (Someone does sell a homemade soundtrack CD though, with a slightly complicated ordering procedure.) Someone else has attempted to make an Amazon.com list of CDs containing the songs, which is my preferred route.
There's still one snag though. One of the best songs in the movie was performed by a short-lived teenage indie duo called Tattle Tale, and their CD is not only unavailable, but apparently rather rare -- last I checked Amazon said "1 used & new from $130." Luckily there's still hope, since each half of the duo has continued to make music since, and one of them sells a best-of CD called I Bleed collecting songs covering a decade of her music, including two songs from the Tattle Tale days.
About two weeks after I ordered it, I received that CD today, case hand-packed in a cloth sleeve. The beautiful song "Glass Vase Cello Case" that started the quest is the best song on there, and the other Tattle Tale song is second best (except its screechy-cello intro). The rest doesn't sound like that; much of the music reminds me of the sort of consciously-indie-rock sound I've heard in bars for 15 years, except this time it's cello-driven indie rock, occasionally veering toward cello-punk. I'm thinking Kronos Quartet fought Sleater-Kinney, then the few survivors got up and made this music. Some I like, some is unlistenable, most is somewhere in between.
Now I'm curious about how the other half of Tattle Tale sounds. And I still need to get some of the other music that caught my attention.
