Richard Thompson's been playing *forever*, so it's utterly possible. Fairport Convention basically started the British folk-rock phenomenon in the late 60's, when LZ was starting out... And gods know that LZ has enough Celtic and folk influence in their music. They were moving in the same circles at the time, for what that's worth. But I don't know if they ever played together.

Good points. I sometimes forget that Richard Thompson existed in music before 1980. And when I was listening to Led Zeppelin I was totally unaware of so many of their Celtic and folk (not to mention fantasy) influences and references, since I hadn't gotten much exposure to those elements anywhere else yet.
