Oh, those are the worst dreams. If I'm dreaming about bug-eyed monsters or demon dogs or being chased by the zombie mafia or whatever, I can wake up and a quick glance around the room assures me that everything's all right. But nightmares about social collapse or distant disasters or outbreaks of bizzare diseases? Then I look around the room and think, "But of course, everything would look the same, wouldn't it?" and then I have to get online and check the news feeds before I can go back to sleep.

I think the big giveaway for me was that in the dream I was sitting in an early-20th-century sort of house (lots of dark hardwood everywhere) like various houses I've previously live in, rather than a 1950s ranch sort of house like I now live in.
