Five Years

This past Friday was our five-year wedding anniversary. So we splurged on a nice suite (with ugly curtains) at the Cuyahoga Falls Sheraton, only about half an hour from home, overlooking some falls on the Cuyahoga river (OK, and Route 8 and the Schebels factory on the other side). The room came complete with a nice-sized whirlpool tub and a very soft bed. We originally intended to stay only one night, but ended up extending it to two. The first night we had dinner at a friendly little Italian restaurant a few miles away since the closer Irish pub was packed with an indefinite wait for one of the ten tables (and five names already on the waiting list). Saturday we ran home to stock up, bringing back food so we could have dinner in the room.

On the way home Sunday we stopped at the river gorge that separates Cuyahoga Falls from Akron, and saw the big falls of the Cuyahoga there. It was beautiful. We decided we could imagine living there -- in that gorge between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, that is. I/we miss living in a city with a river.

It was a bit chilly, and we weren't really dressed for hiking, so we continued home after walking a mile or so. We ended up heading over to the area around the University of Akron to grab a bite at the coffee shop there (Aroma, which felt comfortably campusish). I was then reminded of the most important fact I've learned about Akron: it's easy to get off the freeway in Akron, but it's hard to get onto the freeway in Akron, at least going the direction I want to go (which is usually south). But we did eventually find our way to the freeway and then home.

It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

Wow, 5 years. Seems like the wedding was only a couple of years ago. Well, I guess it was.

Now I can't get the Schwebel's song out of my head. (We want Shwebel's, we want Shwebel's, no other label will do...)

Ahhhh Faith! Why did you have to put that song into my head!!

Mwahahahaha! :steeples fingers maleficently:.

You guys were probably very close to where I live. I live a stone's throw from the bridge on State Rd where you can see the Gorge, and I often hike the Metropark trails behind my apt building in the spring and summer. I do feel lucky to live near natural beauty (though the ghetto is only blocks away).

The water (falls, river, hot tub) was nice. The company wasn't so bad either. ;-) We need to do it again some time.

And I thought the homely curtains added to the atmosphere, as they were quite similar to our homely curtains in our rented home.

I have lived near water (within a mile or two, generally less) my entire life. I cannot imagine it otherwise. Well, except when I lived in Akron when I was a youngun. That was only for a year. And I've been told I screamed nearly the whole time ;-)

The most amazing was last year when I lived next to the Shannon.

The Sheraton on the Falls is where we stayed for our honeymoon and where my posed wedding photos were taken.

There was in fact a wedding party there at the same time we were. [livejournal.com profile] nontacitare pointed out that they would have the same anniversary as us.

Definitely a nice place for that sort of thing.

I imagine that, given that I've now been broken up from Tina for a full year, you guys now hold the record for "longest relationship between two members of PSA". If that's any kind of record to hold :)

Congrats on five years. Here's hoping for many more.

I thought we held the record even before you and Tina broke up, since as I recall you two got together about six months after we did.

Looking back at the photos from the day, it's slightly depressing how many couples then are no longer together. (It's more depressing how many not-so-old people there are dead now.)

[There's a new one, anonymous commmenting on my own journal...]

I don't know. . . When did you get together? Because Tina and I started dating in early March of 1998.

Not much depressing, really about Tina and I no longer being together, really, though. Just a change, but I suppose that changes are sometimes depressing.

And I do the anonymous comment thing every so often on my own journal :)

OK, so you had us beat by two months. I thought it was fall for you.

And I certainly realize that any given no-longer-couple isn't necessarily depressing. There's something about collective quantities of them though, that can be at least striking.

How long have Joann and Ed been married? And is Chris still married? I thought both couples predated us.

And a shout-out to all you PSA people out there - thanks for bringing Rob and I together.

[livejournal.com profile] autumnfey and Ed got together around the summer of 1998. . . End of summer~ish?

Chris is still married, but my understanding is that he met Deb after we'd known him for a while. Plus, there was the breakup that lasted a few months.

I didn't think Chris even showed up until at least fall 1998.

And I know Ed wasn't around before that summer.

Wow, I feel young for the first time in a while.

Completely OT and I apologize. I just think its amazing that we (ceolnamara and I) both have Harry Potter Avatars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Mood Icons (although mine is just of Tara).

Amusing, but no big surprise; Harry and Buffy fandom is nearly universal among my friends here.

I call that good taste. :-D

Heh, that's even before I mention that by 1998 everyone who I'd started with at OSU in 1991 had already graduated.
