  • 10:00 working again today, just to update/fix what I did last week. #
  • 15:41 back to trying to work around weird browser bugs. Tired though; may be time for caffeine.... #
  • 16:17 got caffeine. And chocolate. And sweet almond flavoring. Plus rebooted to MacOS X for more browser bugginess. (Safari Event wisdom welcome.) #
  • 17:45 just may have resolved my buggy browser bafflement! I just had to think inside-out and backwards. #
  • 18:30 well, almost resolved... it works everywhere except IE6. Now this is a world I'm all too familiar with. #

Quick question for you: Tom wants to buy a Netbook that comes with Linux instead of Windows. Do you know how we would go about procuring one in Columbus?

I wish I knew. The main place I've gone that has netbooks is Micro Center, but once their suppliers started offering Windows, all the Linux ones soon disappeared. It's worth checking, but I haven't seen a Linux netbook there in a while.

Well, come to think of it, last time I was in Computer Express (next to Micro Center) they had a used netbook running Linux. But of course what they have varies all the time. It's also possible that they might be able to direct you someplace; in my experience they're quite friendly and helpful even when it doesn't directly lead to a sale for them.

It might be worth checking The Laptop Guy; I've never been there though. (Maybe I should check it out since I'm not far away right now.)

Other than stores, there's always the option of ordering one online and having it shipped. After all, that's how I got my laptop (and its predecessor, come to think of it). You just don't get to try out everything as well that way, though you can still play with the Windows version in the stores.

Thanks. We actually looked in Micro Center; nary a Linux laptop to be found. We stepped outside to Computer Express, but they were closed by the time we got there. Tom said he's going to call them today. I'm not familiar with the Laptop Guy; we'll have to check them out. Thanks again.

I did end up stopping by The Laptop Guy today... turns out their main business is fixing them, and a secondary business is selling (and buying) used ones. There were only about six laptops for sale at the Grandview location when I was there, none of them netbooks; I think the Gahanna store is the main one for sales though.

Yeah, I think we're going to hold off for right now. Thanks, though.
