Funk Babblings

Anyone remember my cedar shelving project from this past fall? The idea was that I really like my shelf unit that's currently holding duriyah's CDs, so I wanted to build another one, but taller and possibly with shelves spaced slightly closer together. So I bought two 6-foot and a bunch of 4-foot "cedar pickets" from Home Depot, carefully choosing the pieces, and discarding those that might be fine for a fence but were too rough or mangled for shelves.

Well, I didn't get much done on it back in fall, but in the past few weeks I've made some progress, first cutting to size, then sanding, and finally on this past sunny Sunday I managed to put most of the pieces together so it actually looks like shelves!

Of course, it's not really usable yet, which is why it's sitting in the garage. Next I need to put the plywood backing on, partly to horizontally stabilize it and partly to give each shelf more support. Then I'll put some narrower pieces on the bottom as feet. Oh yeah, and grind down a wayward screw peeking out from the bottom shelf.

After that it should be ready to put in the living room so I can finally get all my CDs out of boxes!
