The move is done! My stuff is here! In fact my stuff is piled high everywhere and we can barely get to the computers.

Saturday morning we picked up a 26-foot truck from a somewhat confused U-Haul clerk in Canton. Then with the help of a couple co-workers and an Ohio LinuxFest organizer (drafted into helping with the washer & dryer when he just came to pick up some papers) we managed to load the big and heavy stuff into the truck. The last of our helpers left around 4, five hours after we started, but we still had a bunch of smaller stuff to get in there (and a bit still to box). Around 5 I looked at what was left and predicted that we'd be home by dark, i.e. leave Canton by about 6. The next few hours proved that I'm both an optimist and a packrat. (I intend to get rid of much of that stuff soon, but work schedules prevented me from doing so earlier.)

We finally left Canton around 8:40, [livejournal.com profile] duriyah at the wheel of the truck, drove two hours home, and went to bed.

Sunday [livejournal.com profile] duriyah was totally worn out, but we had to get up and make some room in the house before unloading the truck, since previous loads of boxes were piled where we needed furniture to go. Shortly after we finished that, my sister arrived with her fiance and son, and they helped us unload into the garage and house. I think unloading "only" took about five hours.

After that I was totally exhausted.

Yesterday we skipped work to recuperate and try to put things back together a bit. We returned the truck without too much difficulty, though I was either charged $20 too much or not charged anything at all.

And today we're back to work, and I continue to do little things to put the house back together, as well as planning how to get rid of some of my excess stuff in the garage, and gradually reintegrating myself into Columbus culture while exploring the more immediate surroundings (Pataskala to Buckeye Lake, Newark to Lancaster).
