There are a lot of movies coming that I want to see....
Current...
Spider-Man 2 - It sort of caught me off guard when it was released and declared by pundits as "the year's most anticipated movie". I had thought that Fahrenheit 9/11 (released a week earlier) was the year's most anticipated movie. I hear it's supposedly better than the first one, which is good enough for me.
I, Robot - So what if it's not a direct transfer from Asimov's book? Still should be fun.
Coming Soon....
Catwoman (July 19) - I know Catwoman from Michelle Pfeiffer's role in Batman Returns twelve years ago. (Wow, I'm getting old.) I have no doubt Halle Berry is up for the role, but I'm not so confident that this director can do as well as Tim Burton.
The Manchurian Candidate (July 30) - Someday I'll see the original. But how can I pass up a political thriller this year?
The Village (July 30) - M. Night Shyamalan's movies often veer a little too close to horror for my taste, but they're a lot more interesting than most horror flicks. I was a little disappointed (or maybe annoyed) by Signs, but Unbreakable and of course The Sixth Sense were awesome.
Later this year....
Shark Tale (October) - Dreamworks' answer to Pixar's Finding Nemo looks to be a bit darker, but still fun, as is usual for the company.
The Phantom of the Opera (December) - I enjoyed the book. I've never actually seen it on stage. And my favorite version of the music is on the Me First And The Gimme Gimmes' album Are A Drag.
In Production....
Elektra (February 2005) - A spinoff of Daredevil, which I left saying I wanted to see more of Jennifer Garner. I guess I'll get my wish.
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny (April 2005) - It's a Tenacious D movie. It stars Jack Black. What more is there to say?
Star Wars: Episode III (May 2005) - Not nearly as anxiously awaited as we once thought it would be, but still a must-see.
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (June 2005) - I've been waiting for this one for half my life. Too bad Douglas Adams died before seeing it finished, but at least he got a first draft of this screenplay done first. By my count this is the sixth version of this story that Adams has written. (The first five were the radio series, books, records, TV series, and Infocom game.)
Batman Begins (June 2005) - Batman's origin story. No Tim Burton or Michael Keaton, but there's still potential for salvaging the Batman film franchise.
Fantastic Four (July 2005) - Hey look, another comic book superhero movie. This one includes Jessica Alba of Dark Angel.
Serenity (2005) - Once upon a time, Joss Whedon wrote a film screenplay called Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The studio turned it into a joke of a film that Joss hated, so he turned his concept into a successful TV series, which spawned a successful spinoff. Then he came up with a concept for a new TV series, Firefly, but the network treated it poorly (hey guys, show the pilot first!) and killed it after half a season. Joss remained committed to telling the story he wanted to tell. That commitment took him back from TV to film, and this is the result. If it's successful it'll be the first part of a trilogy.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) - Third director. Same kids. Let's hope they can keep it up.
King Kong (2005) - The second major remake of the 1933 film, this time directed by Peter Jackson and starring Jack Black and Andy Serkis (as King Kong).
Someday....
The Da Vinci Code (2005?) - I really want to read the book at some point. Ron Howard will direct the movie. Just remember that it's fiction.
X-Men 3 (2006?) - The X-Men franchise continues. Presumably there will be a Phoenix involved.
Indiana Jones 4 (2006?) - Harrison Ford back for another round? Isn't he getting a bit old for this sort of thing?
Superman (2006?) - The saga retold for a new generation. Dunno yet who will play the title role.
Babylon 5: The Memory Of Shadows (2006?) - Very little is known about this so far, but it's likely to fill in some gaps in the Babylon 5 saga, particularly the Telepath War. It may also tie together the three B5 series (including both Crusade and the aborted Legend of the Rangers) better than has happened so far. Unfortunately the death of Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) has necessitated a delay and script rewrite.
Update: Added Superman and made other minor changes.
