So this evening [livejournal.com profile] nontacitare and I were talking, and somehow the following two epiphanies came about:

- [livejournal.com profile] nontacitare realized that the Good Times virus of 1994-1995 was not, in fact, a hoax, but actually a real (but slightly confused) warning sent back in time from when real viruses such as the Melissa Worm really could do what Good Times supposedly could do, but the warning was sent back too far, to when email couldn't actually do that. Somehow the time travel messed with the identifying details, so we can't be sure exactly which real virus they were intending to warn about.

- I realized that the Bad Times virus must be related to Happy Fun Ball. (Those who weren't watching Saturday Night Live in 1991 may want to read the Happy Fun Ball background at Wikipedia.)

I'm always glad when we are able to improve our understanding of the world this way.
Mood:: 'silly' silly
