I finally watched last week's Smallville, and was quite amused....

But first, I should mention that the previous week included James "Spike" Marsters in his second appearance in a recurring role for the season, so they did a vampire episode for Halloween. Since Marsters played a vampire on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the episode was packed with Buffy references, culminating with a character using the phrase "slaying Buffy the vampire". (Oh, and I still haven't gotten used to Marsters over-pronouncing his R's.)

The latest episode continued the TV homages with guest star Tom Wopat, who along with John "Jonathan Kent" Schneider were Bo & Luke Duke in Dukes of Hazzard about 20-25 years ago. (I remember it being my favorite show in second grade.) Similar to the vampire episode, they filled this episode with references to the old show, both subtle and not-so-subtle. Since Wopat has changed a lot more since Dukes than Marsters has since Buffy/Angel, there were more visual references this time. Wopat's Smallville character drives what looks like a Dodge Charger (but blue, not orange), and even got in his car through the window at one point (then had to explain that the door's always been broken).

How sad is it that both these episodes resonated with me?
