Yesterday was one of the busiest and most social we've had in a while.

We started off joining about half a dozen members of [livejournal.com profile] duriyah's dance troupe at "Riverfest" downtown between COSI and the Scioto river. It turned out that their noon show was right at the beginning of the afternoon festival, and was competing with a cover band playing on the other stage down on the river. It also turned out to be sunnier and hotter than had been predicted.

I didn't have an assigned task like at RenFest (someone with the festival was running sound), so I just helped out wherever I could. And I actually felt like I was able to be useful, which was nice.

After the performance (and a bit of wandering around the little festival), some of the group went in their own directions, but most of us went to Benevolence for a late lunch. I've heard about the place forever, but this was the first time I've actually been inside and eaten there. I enjoyed hanging out and relaxing with good food and fun company.

Finally we went home and napped; I even fell asleep on the couch before even making it to the bed. Later [livejournal.com profile] gothpanda called about us coming over for the evening, and [livejournal.com profile] duriyah said we might bring a movie or two, such as "Boogie Nights".

Not long after that, the house suddenly went eerily silent except for the periodic beeping of UPSes. The power had gone out -- at least twelve hours after a thunderstorm came through. Our power never goes out when you expect it to, but only after you've been lulled into thinking that the risk has passed.

Since we were about to head out for the evening anyway, this was no big deal.... until I realized that the movies were in the DVD changer, which won't open without being powered up. After a few minutes of trying in vain for a way to open it without power, we decided it wasn't really that important anyway.

After stopping for a Pizzeria Uno dinner, we went to [livejournal.com profile] gothpanda's place, and soon learned that, in the time since she'd called, the evening had turned into an impromptu five-couple game night, including two couples we'd never met before. We played three different games and had a lot of fun. (Somehow people were surprised that I was able to act out "Don't Worry Be Happy" with [livejournal.com profile] duriyah able to guess it; I figured his percussion style was the obvious way to go.)

We made it home again around 11:30 and went right to sleep... until it was interrupted a couple hours later by a sick cat. But I'll leave that part for [livejournal.com profile] duriyah's account of the day.
